In some parts of the UK and Europe, there has been an increase in the number of people getting measles.
While there have been only very few recent cases in Scotland, there remains a risk of infection in those who have only received one dose or no doses of the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine.
NHS Scotland offers 2 doses of the MMR vaccine to children at around 12 to 13 months, and 3 years 4 months. If it is missed at these times, it can be given at any age.
MMR catch-up for children
Vaccination clinics for MMR are available at a range of locations across Lothian for children and young people who haven’t yet had two doses.
Please book an appointment for your child to receive their MMR vaccine (see list below) by calling the NHS Lothian Vaccination Helpline on 0300 790 6296.
The helpline is open 8.30am to 3.30pm, Monday to Sunday.
If you have been contacted by letter about the clinics and your child has already has had two doses of the MMR vaccine, it is important that you call us so we can update your record.

Checking your vaccination record
Parents of children in primary or secondary school – please check now that your children are fully up to date. Parents can check their child’s Red Book (personal child health record) for details of immunisations received.
Young people in college or university – if you’re 25 or under, you can find out if you’ve had 2 doses of the MMR vaccine by looking in your Red Book. You can also check for any other vaccines you’re eligible for. Ask your parent or carer if they have this. If not, or you’re over 25, phone your GP practice. They’ll check your records and advise if you need any additional vaccines.
Adults – for adults who think they’re eligible for the MMR vaccine you can contact your GP practice and they will check your records and advise if you need to be vaccinated. If your GP cannot help, email loth.vaccenquiries@nhs.scot or phone 0300 790 6296 (open 8.30am-3.30pm, seven days a week).
For people who have recently moved to Scotland – make sure you are up to date with vaccinations offered for free by NHS Scotland. You may be eligible for additional vaccines that were not available where you lived previously.
