The Astley Ainslie opened as the Astley Ainslie Institution in 1923, with only 14 patients.

It has been at the forefront of the development of medical rehabilitation services in Scotland throughout its history.

Formal Event - Ceremonial tree planting

Current staff, former staff and guests with an association with the rehabilitation hospital were invited to a formal event on 28th October 2023 with the programme including planting of a tree in the grounds to commemorate 100 years of the Astley Ainslie Hospital.

To commemorate 100 years of the Astley Ainslie Hospital, hospital staff compiled and curated an exhibition to showcase care, compassion and innovation since the hospital first opened in 1923.

Havens Outdoor Exhibition – from Friday 27th October 2023

Dotted across campus, you will find the work of artists Craig Easton and Lottie Davies as part of the NHS Lothian Charity’s Havens project. Havens has been a year-long documentary photography project featuring a wide range of staff members, aiming to promote wellbeing in the workplace and the importance of taking breaks throughout the day.
