Thank you for your interest in volunteering with NHS Lothian. Please make sure you have read all the information on our applying to be a volunteer page, are able to manage our minimum commitments and are willing and able to take part in our training programme before starting your application. 

PLEASE NOTE: Our volunteering roles take place in hospitals across the Lothian area, please factor in your travel arrangements before applying and avoid applying for roles that will involve considerable travel for you (e.g., longer than 40 minutes). Where we receive applications and your address is a considerable distance from the opportunity you have applied for, we will contact you about this before progressing your application.

For the majority of our volunteering roles, we ask for a regular weekly commitment at the same time and day each week. Please ensure you can commit to this before applying to volunteer with us. If your availability varies from week to week and you cannot make this weekly commitment e.g., you do shift work with varying shift patterns, we will be unable to place you in a volunteering role at this time.

Please ensure you indicate which role and site you are applying for before you submit your application. You must also ensure you can attend at least one of the interview or training dates for your chosen site as alternatives are not available.

Our application form for these opportunities will open from 9am on Wednesday 25th February 2026 until 12pm on Monday 9th March 2026. Applications may close early if we receive a high number so please get your application in early.
