Thank you for your interest in volunteering with NHS Lothian. Please make sure you have read all the information on our applying to be a volunteer page, are able to manage our minimum commitments and are willing and able to take part in our training programme before starting your application. 

PLEASE NOTE: Our volunteering roles take place in hospitals across the Lothian area, please factor in your travel arrangements before applying and avoid applying for roles that will involve considerable travel for you (e.g., longer than 40 minutes).

For the majority of our volunteering roles, we ask for a regular weekly commitment at the same time and day each week. Please ensure you can commit to this before applying to volunteer with us. If your availability varies from week to week and you cannot make this weekly commitment e.g., you do shift work with varying shift patterns, we will be unable to place you in a volunteering role at this time.

Our Volunteer Recruitment will open again on Monday 22nd September 2025 and will be open for approximately 2 weeks. We are recruiting to a selection of roles across the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Western General Hospital and St John’s Hospital. You find the details of these here: Volunteering Opportunities

Before applying for roles at these locations, please ensure you are available to attend one or more of the below interview and training dates for these roles.

For roles at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh please ensure you can attend:

In-person group interview at Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh on one of the following dates/times:
15th October, 4pm – 6pm
17th October, 2pm – 4pm
22nd October, 4pm – 6pm
24th October, 4pm – 6pm

In-person training at Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh on one of the following dates/times.
28th October, 2pm – 5pm
7th November, 3pm – 6pm
11th November, 2pm – 5pm

For roles at the Western General Hospital please ensure you can attend:

In-person group interview at Western General Hospital on one of the following dates/times:
8th October, 3pm – 5pm
9th October, 2.30pm – 4.30pm
10th October, 2pm – 4pm
15th October, 10.30am – 12.30pm

In-person training at Western General Hospital on one of the following dates/times.
24th October, 1.30pm – 4.30pm
30th October, 1.30pm – 4.30pm
