Please make sure you have read all the information on our applying to be a volunteer page, are able to manage our minimum commitments and are willing and able to take part in our training programme before starting your application. PLEASE NOTE: Our volunteering roles take place in hospitals across the Lothian area, please factor in your travel arrangements before applying and avoid applying for roles that will involve considerable travel for you (e.g., longer than 40 minutes). For the majority of our volunteering roles, we ask for a regular weekly commitment at the same time and day each week. Please ensure you can commit to this before applying to volunteer with us. If your availability varies from week to week and you cannot make this weekly commitment e.g., you do shift work with varying shift patterns, we will be unable to place you in a volunteering role at this time. Due to the high number of applications received during our September recruitment round, recruitment for our hospital-based volunteer roles is now closed. Our Bridge Builder Volunteer Programme is now open. Please note: if you submit an application for a role that is not currently being advertised, your application will be withdrawn. Bridge Builder Volunteering Applications open on Thursday 2nd October 2025 and will close on Sunday 19th October or when we have reached capacity, whichever is sooner. Volunteers must be aged 18 or over and currently studying for a qualification in healthcare (e.g. medicine, nursing, allied health professions, psychology and public health).
